Short answer

Ceramic coating at A-1 Auto Detailing starts at $600 in Pleasant Hill, IA. The price includes a full wash, iron and clay decontamination, paint prep with light correction as needed, and a professional-grade coating applied by hand. A coating protects for years, compared with weeks or months for wax, and makes the vehicle much easier to wash.

Prices current as of September 2026. Reviewed by Levi Rench, owner.

What is included

  • Full wash and iron/contaminant removal
  • Clay-bar or clay-towel decontamination
  • Paint prep and light correction as needed
  • Professional-grade ceramic coating applied by hand
  • Hydrophobic, gloss-enhancing protection
  • Cures to a hard, long-lasting shell
  • Aftercare guidance so it lasts

What a ceramic coating does

A ceramic coating bonds to the clear coat and cures into a hard, glossy, water-repellent layer. Water beads and sheets off, road grime and bird droppings have a harder time sticking, and washing takes less effort.

It stands up to the sun, salt and grime that wear down paint in Iowa, and it lasts years rather than the weeks or months you get from wax.

Why prep is most of the job

A coating locks in whatever is underneath it, including swirl marks. That is why every A-1 coating starts with decontamination and paint prep, with light correction as needed.

For paint with heavy swirls, full paint correction first gives the best result.

Matte and satin paint

Matte and satin finishes need a coating made for them. Levi has sourced a matte-specific coating for a customer before, so mention your finish when you ask for a quote.

Aftercare

Every coating comes with aftercare guidance: how to wash it, what to avoid, and how to keep it performing for years.
